Dragon LLM Bets Europe Can Build Its Own Frugal AI

Dragon LLM CEO Olivier Debeugny is making a direct claim: Europe should build its own AI architecture, not rent American capability indefinitely. In an interview with DirectIndustry e-Magazine, he describes what he calls a frugal AI model, one designed to do more with less compute and cost.

The Airbus analogy is pointed. Airbus succeeded because European governments decided sovereign aerospace capability was worth building collectively. Debeugny is applying the same logic to generative AI. The argument is that dependency on US labs is a structural liability, not just a cost line.
